Gross GST collections were Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October, up 22.9% from Rs 1.88 lakh crore a year earlier; net collections rose 25.6% to Rs 2.03 lakh crore. Import revenue rose 42.2% and domestic revenue 15.8%. Some reports say record, but it is the second-highest month this year after April.

India's gross Goods and Services Tax collections rose 22.9% year on year to Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October, according to provisional data released on 1 November. The figure compares with Rs 1.88 lakh crore in October 2025, an increase of about Rs 43,000 crore. Net collections, after refunds, rose 25.6% to Rs 2.03 lakh crore from Rs 1.61 lakh crore.
Domestic revenue grew 15.8% to Rs 1.59 lakh crore, made up of CGST of Rs 42,935 crore, SGST of Rs 51,340 crore and IGST of Rs 64,769 crore. Import-related revenue grew much faster, up 42.2% to Rs 72,246 crore from Rs 50,796 crore. Net of refunds, domestic revenue was Rs 1.45 lakh crore, up 16.4%, and customs-related GST was Rs 58,319 crore, up 56.2%.
Total refunds rose 6.5% to Rs 27,934 crore. Domestic refunds were Rs 14,007 crore, up 9.8%, and export refunds were Rs 13,927 crore, up 3.4%.
Several outlets called October a record month. The more precise description is that it was the second-highest monthly collection of the current financial year, after Rs 2.43 lakh crore in April 2026. One report calls the growth the fastest in more than four years. The government data credited robust domestic activity and a sharp rise in import-related tax revenue, and reports tied the jump to the festive season around Navratri and Dussehra.
A cautionary note in one report points out that part of the rise in imports could reflect higher prices rather than larger volumes. The data does not separate the two, so the figures cannot show how much of the growth is real demand.
From April to October of this financial year, gross collections grew 13.2% to Rs 14.77 lakh crore, and net collections grew 12.6% to Rs 12.69 lakh crore. Refunds rose 16.9% to Rs 2.08 lakh crore over the same period. Reports differ slightly on the year-to-date total, citing Rs 14.77 lakh crore and Rs 14.78 lakh crore, and one report said the figures were first shared in a social media post and advised checking them against the official GST release.
