HMD has unveiled the Nokia 2360 Flip, a clamshell feature phone with an SOS button and Family Assist remote management. It has dual displays, a 1,450mAh removable battery and USB-C. India pricing and sale date are yet to be announced, and the phone supports 2G only.

HMD has unveiled the Nokia 2360 Flip, a clamshell feature phone aimed at people who want a basic handset with an emphasis on safety and supervision, including senior citizens and school students. The company has listed the phone’s features and specifications on its official website, but has not yet announced pricing or a sale date for India.
The 2360 Flip arrives at a time when interest in so-called “dumbphones” has returned for some buyers who prefer calls and texts over apps, or who want a second device that is harder to misuse. Still, the model’s biggest constraint is also its most old-fashioned one: it is 2G-only.
The headline feature is a dedicated SOS button on the rear. Holding it for three seconds triggers a call to a pre-set number and sends an alert text message to as many as five contacts. The intent is straightforward: a child, an elderly user, or anyone in a hurry can send a signal without wading through menus.
HMD is also leaning on a new control layer called Family Assist. The tool is designed for a parent or caregiver who needs to set up or maintain a phone for someone else. Once authorised, a family member can remotely add contacts, adjust volume, set reminders, and configure settings such as school mode or contact whitelists.
A key detail is how it works. Family Assist communicates with the 2360 Flip over SMS, which means the feature phone itself does not need a mobile data plan for remote management. The managing smartphone, however, would still need connectivity to run the companion app.
The phone uses a clamshell design with two displays: a 2.8-inch internal screen with a 320 x 240-pixel resolution, and a 1.77-inch external screen at 160 x 128 pixels for quick checks such as caller ID and notifications without opening the handset. HMD is pitching the interface around large icons and clear text to reduce friction for first-time users and people with poor eyesight.
Under the hood, the Nokia 2360 Flip runs Nokia’s Series 30+ operating system. Storage is minimal at 4MB, but it supports microSD expansion up to 32GB, which is more relevant for music than for apps. The handset includes an MP3 player and an FM radio, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
For charging, HMD has moved to USB Type-C, a port now common even on low-cost devices. The battery is removable and rated at 1,450mAh. The company claims up to 15 days of standby time or up to 27.5 hours of talk time, figures that will appeal to buyers who prioritise long gaps between charges over a thin body.
Other hardware notes include hearing aid compatibility (HAC2011), a loudspeaker, and a QVGA rear camera. On networks, the phone supports dual-band 2G (900/1800MHz) and Dual SIM.
Colour options listed are Charcoal, Burgundy Red, and Teal.
The 2360 Flip’s reliance on 2G is likely to shape where it can be used. HMD’s own note is blunt: the handset will not work in regions where carriers have fully shut down legacy 2G networks. That caveat matters for travellers and for families buying a device for a student who may move cities, switch operators, or rely on coverage that changes over time.
For India, the immediate open questions are commercial rather than technical. HMD has not confirmed the local price, nor the date the phone will go on sale. The company has indicated that updates will be posted on its official website as rollout details are finalised.
In the meantime, the Nokia 2360 Flip’s pitch is clear: fewer distractions, simpler calling and texting, and a layer of remote help for people who need it. Whether that proposition is enough will depend less on nostalgia than on the practical reality of 2G availability in the places buyers expect the phone to work.
