Bayern Munich and Dortmund drew 2-2 at the Allianz Arena on 31 October after Fábio Silva’s 88th-minute equaliser. Bayern had 23 shots, missed a Kane penalty and hit the woodwork three times.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund shared the points in Der Klassiker on 31 October at the Allianz Arena, finishing 2–2 after a late Dortmund equaliser and a night of missed chances for the home side.
Konrad Laimer put Bayern in front in the 38th minute, but Serhou Guirassy levelled for Dortmund on 60 minutes. Dayot Upamecano restored Bayern’s lead five minutes later, only for Fábio Silva to strike in the 88th to rescue a draw.
The result left a familiar feeling around Munich: Bayern had the ball, the territory and the openings, yet could not land the knockout blow. Harry Kane’s missed penalty in the 56th minute became the hinge moment, with Dortmund hanging on long enough to make their late push count.
Bayern’s volume was overwhelming. They finished with 23 shots and an expected-goals figure of 4.18, with 18 efforts coming from inside the penalty area. On another day, that kind of pressure turns a rivalry match into a routine win.
Instead, Dortmund made their limited chances travel. Their xG was listed at 0.63, yet they scored twice, a clinical return that kept them alive through long spells without the ball and punished Bayern’s waste.
Laimer’s opener set the tone for the evening, arriving after Bayern had already started to squeeze Dortmund back. The Austrian, busy across midfield, later spoke like a player who felt a win had been allowed to slip.
“We had enough chances to score more goals,” Laimer said, summing up a match in which Bayern repeatedly got into scoring positions but could not turn superiority into separation.
Kane’s penalty miss in the 56th minute raised the stakes for the final half-hour. With Bayern unable to extend their lead from the spot, Dortmund’s equaliser soon followed through Guirassy, who ended a personal drought in this fixture after failing to score in his previous Klassiker appearances since joining the club.
Upamecano’s goal in the 65th minute looked, briefly, like it would settle the contest. Bayern had their lead back, the stadium had lifted, and the pattern of play still pointed one way. Yet Dortmund kept their shape, stayed in the game and waited for one more opening.
That opening arrived late. Silva’s 88th-minute finish completed Dortmund’s escape and ensured the Klassiker ended level.
Dortmund’s approach was shaped by their coach, Niko Kovac, who opted for a 4-4-1-1 structure without the ball. The idea was to narrow passing lanes into central areas and keep Bayern’s attackers from receiving clean service between the lines.
For long stretches, it worked as damage limitation. Bayern still created heavily, but Dortmund’s banks of four forced attacks wide and demanded that Bayern beat them with precision rather than momentum.
The trade-off was clear too. Dortmund offered less going forward for much of the match, but they stayed close enough on the scoreboard to make late moments matter. When Silva scored with two minutes left, it was the payoff for a plan built on discipline and timing rather than sustained pressure.
For Bayern, the frustration was sharper because the night carried so many near-misses. Along with the penalty that went begging, they struck the woodwork three times, a snapshot of how the game repeatedly moved to the edge of a decisive swing and then snapped back.
The draw also came with concerns beyond the scoreline. Reports after the match described a triple injury blow for Bayern, though details were not confirmed in the material available on Sunday.
There was, however, a more positive note around the squad: Bayern captain Manuel Neuer has been aiming for a return in their Champions League plans, with Atlético Madrid mentioned as a possible target match for his comeback.
The 2–2 keeps the rivalry’s recent pattern of drama intact. Earlier in the season, Bayern won away in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August, beating Dortmund 2–1 to lift the trophy. Dortmund, though, will take heart from leaving Munich with a point after spending long periods under siege.
The next league meeting is already on the calendar. Dortmund are set to host Bayern at Signal Iduna Park on 6 March 2027, with the kick-off time still to be confirmed.
Between now and then, both sides will look at the same match and see different lessons. Bayern will wonder how a game with 23 shots, a penalty and repeated close calls did not end in victory. Dortmund will point to their structure, their finishing and the belief that they can survive storms and still strike at the end.
For everyone else, the Klassiker delivered the familiar bargain: Bayern did most of the attacking, Dortmund did the late damage, and the points were split anyway.
