Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1 at the Bernabéu. Bernardo Silva, signed from Manchester City this summer, scored his first goal for the club late in a tight first half, prodding in after Arda Güler's shot was saved and the rebound was not cleared. Güler doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, turning in a back-post cross from Jude Bellingham after a Kylian Mbappé nod across goal. Leipzig pulled one back through Tidiam Gomis when Dean Huijsen switched off and Thibaut Courtois was beaten. Mbappé then bent in a third from a pass from Yan Diomande on the edge of the box, in the 83rd minute.
Diomande, who cost a reported 140 million euros from Leipzig, had been left on the bench by manager José Mourinho and came on in place of Vinícius Júnior with about 20 minutes to play. Late on he volleyed a Brahim Díaz cross into the top corner. It was his third goal in four appearances. Vinícius, who started on the left despite a four-match La Liga ban, cannot play again until 4 November, when Madrid visit AEK Athens. The win was Madrid's fourth in a row in all competitions, and with Barcelona due in the Clásico on Sunday, they head into it unbeaten in Europe.
Aston Villa made it three from three by beating Viking 3-1. Ross Barkley headed in from Ibrahim Mbaye's corner, Emiliano Buendía converted a penalty after a foul on Alysson, and Viking's Henrik Heggheim put through his own net. Peter Christiansen's late volley gave the Norwegians a consolation. John McGinn was named player of the match.
At Como, Nicolás Paz scored twice, including a curler in the second minute, and Tasos Douvikas and Jacobo Ramón added the others in a 4-1 win over Manchester United, who got a goal back in added time through Joshua Zirkzee. Paz was player of the match.
In Munich, Harry Kane scored from the spot after Jurriën Timber's handball, his goal in a tenth successive Champions League game, which took him to 58 in the competition. Rice equalised for Arsenal with eight minutes left to make it 2-2.
Galatasaray won 4-2 at Lille for their first points of the season. Yunus Akgün scored in the first minute and Soriba Diaoune put Lille ahead in the 39th, then Aleksei Batrakov equalised with a header just before half-time. An own goal by Nabil Bentaleb and a finish from Victor Osimhen against his old club settled it. LASK came from behind to win 3-2 at Sporting for their first Champions League victory. Inter beat Shakhtar 1-0 with a late goal by Carlos Augusto, set up by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, after Alessandro Bastoni was sent off with just over 20 minutes left. Isco's penalty gave Betis a 1-0 win over Feyenoord, and made him the first Betis player to score in consecutive Champions League matches.
The night followed Tuesday's results, when Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2, Barcelona's first defeat of the season. The league phase continues next month, and Madrid are the competition's record 15-time winners, though they have not won a major trophy in two seasons.
