Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 24th instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme on Friday, 30 October, from Bhildi in Banaskantha district of Gujarat. The instalment amounts to more than Rs 18,680 crore and will go to more than 9.34 crore farmer families across the country. Some reports round the figure to Rs 19,000 crore, and the exact total should be checked against the official release. The launch is part of a national "PM Kisan Utsav Diwas" programme, and the Prime Minister will also launch projects in Gujarat worth about Rs 14,000 crore during a two-day visit.
PM-Kisan pays eligible farmer families Rs 6,000 a year in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000, one every four months, directly into their bank accounts. The first 23 instalments have paid out more than Rs 4.47 lakh crore to more than 11 crore families over the life of the scheme, according to the figures given for this release.

| Total release | over Rs 18,680 crore |
| Farmer families | more than 9.34 crore |
| Gujarat families | more than 52.33 lakh |
| Gujarat amount | over Rs 1,051 crore |
| Gujarat's total over 23 instalments | over Rs 24,137 crore to more than 69.26 lakh farmers |
Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani reviewed preparations for the programme at Bhildi, met local officials and held a press conference.
The national programme will be telecast live, and Gujarat will hold 34 district-level events and more than 2,100 cluster-level programmes. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, local representatives, scientists and senior officials will attend, and beneficiaries will receive approval letters for schemes of the agriculture and horticulture departments. In Gandhinagar district the main event is at the Town Hall in Sector 17, with 56 locations holding programmes, including two events in each district panchayat constituency.
At Bhildi, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre, built at a cost of Rs 328.77 crore. He will inaugurate virtually a new potato expansion facility and an automated cold storage facility for ultra-high-temperature milk at Banas Dairy, and he will lay the foundation stones of two compressed biogas plants that Banas Dairy is building at Tharad and Radhanpur. Other reports of the visit mention a potato processing plant expansion at Sanadar, a storage system at Palanpur and new train services, within the projects worth about Rs 14,000 crore.
Modi will spend 30 and 31 October in Gujarat.

The money is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries whose details are on the scheme's portal. A farmer who does not receive the instalment can check the status of the payment on the scheme's official website and can ask the local agriculture office to help to correct details such as the bank account or the Aadhaar linkage, or to complete the e-KYC that the scheme requires. Farmers should not share one-time passwords or bank details with callers who say they can release the instalment.
The scheme is meant for farmer families that own cultivable land, and certain categories, such as institutional landholders and people who pay income tax, are excluded under its rules. Payment depends on the records of the state governments, which is why mismatches between the bank account, the Aadhaar number and the land records are the commonest reasons for a missed instalment.
PM-Kisan is one of the government's largest cash transfers, and each instalment is released at a public event. This one comes in a year in which several states, including Telangana and Maharashtra, have declared drought-affected areas, and in which the price of fertiliser and fuel has risen. For a small farmer, Rs 2,000 is a modest sum, but it arrives at the start of the rabi sowing season, when the need for money for seed and inputs is high.
