Sensex surged 1,225.07 points to close at 76,917.85 on 3 November 2026, ending at the day’s high. Nifty 50 rose 370.05 points to 23,810.85 as financials and FMCG led gains on easing crude and renewed foreign buying.

The BSE Sensex jumped 76,917.85 at the close on 3 November 2026, ending a strong session that finished at the day’s high after a steady climb through the afternoon.
The 30-share benchmark rose 1,225.07 points, or 1.62 per cent, from its previous close of 75,692.78. It opened higher at 76,288.65, dipped to an intraday low of 76,033.74, and then pushed up to 76,917.85, where it settled.
The NSE Nifty 50 also closed firmly in the green at 23,810.85, up 370.05 points, or 1.58 per cent. Together, the moves extended a winning run in Indian equities to a fourth straight session.
Buying was spread across much of the market, with most major sector groups ending higher. Financial stocks led the advance, with strength reported in financial services and private banks as investors added risk after recent volatility.
Consumption-linked names also helped pull the benchmarks higher. FMCG stood out among the day’s leaders, with heavyweight counters providing support as the broader tape improved.
Not every pocket participated. Metals were described as among the weaker areas on the day, and some reports also pointed to softness in energy and PSU banking shares even as the headline indices posted their best levels in weeks.
Mid- and small-cap shares kept pace, though with smaller gains than the large-cap benchmarks. The BSE 150 Midcap index ended 0.8 per cent higher, while the BSE 250 Smallcap index added 0.4 per cent.
The day’s move came as investors weighed a mix of global and domestic inputs, with crude oil and foreign flows back in focus. A correction in global crude oil prices was cited as a tailwind, easing inflation worries for an import-dependent economy and improving sentiment around corporate margins.
Foreign institutional investor interest also returned to the conversation as a driver of the rally, with renewed buying adding liquidity and helping the advance broaden beyond a narrow set of names.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments, said Indian equities extended their recovery as a sharp decline in crude oil prices, falling US Treasury yields and renewed foreign institutional investor (FII) interest eased recent macroeconomic pressures. “Resilient Q2 earnings further strengthened confidence in the domestic growth outlook, while the return of foreign investors after prolonged selling provided a liquidity boost, driving broader participation led by financials and consump,” he said.
Quarterly earnings were another pillar under the day’s risk-on tone. Positive sentiment around September-quarter results was described as supporting the move, with traders pointing to resilience in corporate performance even as global markets remained uneven.
With the Sensex finishing at its intraday peak, attention now turns to whether the market can build on the four-session run without giving back ground at higher levels. Over the session, the index traded in a range of 76,033.74 to 76,917.85, reflecting firm demand on dips.
The benchmark’s 52-week band was listed at 71,292.88 to 86,159.02, leaving it well above the lower end of the range but still below the year’s high.
For investors, the near-term test is whether foreign buying persists and whether the earnings season continues to deliver enough upside surprises to justify richer valuations. Macro signals tied to crude and global bond yields remain the other swing factors, with risk appetite likely to track how those inputs behave in coming sessions.
Here are the key closing levels from Tuesday’s session:
