With Grand Theft Auto VI due on 19 November for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, a Piper Sandler survey of about 9,000 teens says about seven in 10 console owners plan to buy it. The firm sees launch sales above 45 million units and kept its $290 target on Take-Two, whose shares rose about 1.5% premarket.

Grand Theft Auto VI is due on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, 16 days from now, and a new analyst survey points to very strong demand. Piper Sandler reiterated its Overweight rating and $290 price target on Take-Two Interactive on 2 November, citing a survey of about 9,000 teenagers. No PC release date has been announced.
Roughly seven in ten console owners in the survey said they intend to buy the game, and more than half plan to buy it at launch. Piper Sandler still expects launch sales could exceed 45 million units. About 90% of prospective buyers said they intend to play the online component, 40% plan to make additional in-game purchases, and the survey put the payer rate for GTA Online at about 44%. The firm flagged a caveat: about 21% of the newer-generation consoles represented were owned by teens with both platforms, which could shrink the addressable market.
Take-Two's shares rose about 1.5% in premarket trading on Monday, though analysts noted weaker third-party data for its mobile operations and the NBA 2K franchise. One report put the stock at $190.17, near its 52-week low of $183.86. Piper Sandler projects bookings of $1.64 billion for the upcoming earnings report, a 16% fall from a year earlier, which reflects the lull before the launch.
Take-Two has said repeatedly that the 19 November date holds. Its guidance for fiscal 2027 is net bookings of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion, about 20% above the $6.72 billion posted last year, and chief executive Strauss Zelnick named the launch as the main driver of the forecast, saying the year would set new records for operating performance. In the last fiscal year, revenue rose 18% to $6.66 billion, driven by NBA 2K, GTA Online and the Zynga mobile titles, and the company cleared $1.1 billion in short-term debt.
The release has been delayed twice. It was first planned for the fall of 2025, was moved in May 2025 to 26 May 2026, and then in November 2025, alongside Take-Two's second-quarter results, was moved again to 19 November 2026. Rockstar said each time that it needed more time to finish the game to the level of quality players expect, and said that the game will release on Thursday, 19 November 2026. Zelnick has said it will not be delayed again, and one report says he reaffirmed the date on the company's August earnings call. Rumours of a 2027 delay have circulated, but none has been confirmed by the company.
At the base price of $79.99, 45 million copies would be worth roughly $3.6 billion in sales before special editions and digital extras, and one projection puts opening-week sales at $4.5 billion. Survey intentions usually overstate actual purchases, since a teenager's stated plan to buy a game is not a transaction, and the survey's authors themselves point to the overlap between households with more than one console. A further delay would be costly for the company, since its forecast of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion in net bookings for the year depends on the November launch falling in the fiscal year.
The scale of the forecasts is clearer against the company's back catalogue. Grand Theft Auto V has sold close to 230 million copies worldwide and Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold 85 million. Take-Two has said that marketing would begin in the summer and would differ from the approach used for GTA V, possibly using social media and influencers, and Zelnick has said that Rockstar would not spend heavily until close to release. Take-Two has confirmed the November date only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The game follows the criminal couple Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and returns to the fictional city of Vice City from the 2002 game. Reports say the launch will include only the single-player story mode, so online multiplayer will not be available on day one. One outlet reports that digital pre-buyers can start downloading the game on 12 November, a week before launch, and that pre-orders have been open since 25 June at a base price of $79.99, with a $99.99 edition. These details come from secondary reports and were not confirmed in the company's filings reviewed.
The company's next earnings report, which Piper Sandler expects to show a fall in bookings, will be the last before the launch and the best chance to hear any change in the date or marketing plans. Zelnick has said that Rockstar would not spend heavily on marketing until close to release. The analysts' 45 million launch estimate would be among the biggest in the history of the games industry if it is reached, and the survey's household-overlap caveat shows how it could fall short.
With 16 days to go, the main uncertainties are whether Rockstar holds the date, how many players are put off by the price, and how quickly the company delivers the online and PC versions that it has not yet scheduled.
