Hyundai launched the Bayon in India on Monday with bookings open from ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and deliveries expected in early November. The SUV sits between the Venue and Creta, with seven variants and CVT availability on higher trims.

Hyundai on Monday launched the Bayon in India, opening bookings for the compact SUV at a starting price of ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and positioning it as a new crossover choice between the Venue and Creta.
The Bayon will be manufactured locally at Hyundai’s Chennai facility, with deliveries expected to begin in early November. Customers can book the vehicle online with a token amount of ₹11,000, or place orders at dealerships.
Hyundai has introduced the Bayon in seven variants: HX2, HX3, HX3+, HX5, HX6, HX8 and HX10. Manual transmission is limited to the lower variants, while the automatic option is restricted to the higher trims.
A separate set of reports described a broader variant spread and a feature-heavy positioning for the India model, including dual 12.3-inch screens, a built-in AI assistant, and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Hyundai has not, however, released the full price list so far.
One dealer-facing price example now in circulation pegs the Bayon HX3 Petrol MT at ₹10.90 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). That figure is for a specific city and variant, and sits above the newly announced entry price.
The Bayon is a familiar name globally. It has been sold as a subcompact crossover in Europe as Hyundai’s smallest and most affordable SUV there, sitting below the Kona and drawing heavily from the i20 hatchback for its platform and cabin layout.
For India, the early product narrative is about carving out space in the thick of the compact SUV market. Hyundai has placed the Bayon between the Venue and Creta in its local line-up, aiming for buyers who want an SUV stance and feature set without stepping up to a larger vehicle.
Reports indicate the Bayon will be offered initially with petrol power, with a petrol-CNG bi-fuel option to follow from January next year. Transmission availability, as outlined at launch, splits by trim: the HX5, HX6, HX8 and HX10 get a CVT automatic choice, while the lower-end variants are manual-only.
The Bayon’s broader, long-running international template has typically centred on small-displacement petrol engines, including a 1.0-litre turbocharged unit that is often paired with 48V mild-hybrid technology, as well as a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol option. Those global details offer a sense of the vehicle’s roots, though the India launch communications now in the market focus more on positioning, variant walk and feature pitch than on a full, final specification sheet.
The Bayon enters a crowded segment where Hyundai already competes strongly with the Venue and Creta. The new model is also being lined up against fresh and established rivals, including Maruti Suzuki’s Victoris, as early comparisons on price and specification begin to circulate.
With bookings now open and deliveries expected in early November, the next immediate milestone is a complete, variant-wise price announcement. That will determine how sharply Hyundai can slot the Bayon between its own models, and whether the SUV’s promised tech package and upcoming CNG option are enough to pull buyers away from the segment’s best-sellers.
