At the UP BJP executive meeting on 30 October, Home Minister Amit Shah challenged Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav to bring their 'vote chori' and SIR allegations to a special session of Parliament, saying the BJP has nothing to hide, and likened the opposition to a team blaming the umpire.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to bring their allegations of 'vote chori', or vote theft, against the Election Commission to a special session of Parliament. He spoke at the Uttar Pradesh BJP executive committee meeting in Lucknow on Friday, 30 October, a day before the INDIA bloc's symbolic 'public impeachment' of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Shah said the BJP has nothing to hide.
Shah said: 'I am ready to call a special session of Parliament to discuss vote chori.' He said the BJP was ready for a detailed debate on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and on the allegations against the Election Commission, and that the Centre was willing to convene a special sitting for it. In another report he is quoted as saying: 'We have nothing to hide. Let us convene a special session.'
He said Rahul Gandhi would never actually debate the matter in Parliament, that he would disrupt it, and that the opposition wants drama on the streets rather than discussion. He called the allegations against the Commission baseless.
Shah accused the leadership of the Congress and the Samajwadi Party of blaming electoral institutions after they lose elections instead of strengthening their organisations. He used a cricket analogy: after losing the match, they are blaming the umpire and alleging vote theft. He cited the BJP's wins in Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar, Delhi, Puducherry and Assam, and one report adds West Bengal. He said that the BJP will win again in Uttar Pradesh.
The opposition says that the Special Intensive Revision could lead to the deletion of genuine voters' names and that the Election Commission acts in a partisan way. The revision led to the deletion of about 13 crore names, roughly 14% of the earlier rolls, according to one report, and the opposition criticised this while the BJP defended the process. The INDIA bloc has demanded the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation, a halt to the revision and the restoration of earlier voter rolls. On Saturday, the bloc held its mock impeachment, and it plans a rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday.
The dispute over the revision disrupted Parliament in the 2025 monsoon and winter sessions. In December 2025, Rahul Gandhi challenged Shah on vote-theft allegations, and opposition MPs walked out after Shah said that he would decide the order of his own speech. Earlier notices from the opposition seeking Kumar's removal were rejected by the presiding officers of both Houses.
The meeting in Lucknow was of the newly constituted Uttar Pradesh BJP executive committee. It came after the results of the state's Legislative Council elections for graduates' and teachers' constituencies, where the BJP won six seats and the Samajwadi Party five. Akhilesh Yadav called that a loss for the BJP and said his party is preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections.
The reports found do not carry a direct response from Rahul Gandhi or Akhilesh Yadav to Shah's challenge, and they do not say whether the government has taken any formal step to convene a special session. They also do not say what the session would take up beyond the Special Intensive Revision and the allegations against the Commission, or when it might be held. Calling a session of Parliament is a decision for the government, and the reports describe Shah's remarks as an offer and a challenge, not a notification.
