One person was killed and six others were wounded in a shooting inside a Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center mall in Fairfield, California, on the evening of Friday, 30 October. Police responded at about 8:30 pm local time. They describe the shooting as targeted, involving one suspect inside the store, based on preliminary information. By Saturday morning no arrest had been made and a manhunt was under way.
Seven people were found with gunshot wounds. One of them, a 31-year-old woman, died, and family members told police and local media that she was pregnant. Three males, aged 16, 19 and 32, are in critical condition, and a 23-year-old male is in hospital in critical but stable condition. Two more victims, a 19-year-old male and a 43-year-old male, were treated and released, according to police. Reports differ slightly on the wording of the death toll, so the figures are preliminary.
Fairfield police say that the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a targeted incident and that it involved one suspect inside the store. Detectives are reviewing video footage and other evidence to identify the person responsible. Police Chief Dan Marshall asked anyone with information to contact the department and noted that the mall has cameras. Police urged the public to stay vigilant during Saturday's Halloween celebrations. No motive has been revealed.
One report says that the FBI's Sacramento office was deploying its evidence response team to help Fairfield police, which another report does not mention.
