India Women beat Zimbabwe Women by 4 wickets at Raipur. Zimbabwe Women made 114/5 (20 overs) and India Women finished on 116/6 (15.4 overs). India Women chased down the target of 115 with 4 wickets in hand. Deepti Sharma made 49 off 37 balls and Nandani Sharma took 2 for 11. It was played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur on 16 October 2026.
Ndhlovu was 37 off 26 balls at the live snapshot, striking five fours as Zimbabwe looked to take advantage of the hard new ball at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Modester Mupachikwa, the wicketkeeper, was 6 off 15 at the other end.
India’s early breakthrough came via Kranti Gaud, who trapped Beloved Biza lbw for 0 off 4 balls. At that stage Gaud had figures of 2 overs, 16 runs and 1 wicket, while Nandani Sharma had conceded just five runs in her first two overs. Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma and Arundhati Reddy were also used inside the powerplay as India rotated options.
The match is the first of a three-game T20I series and carries a few firsts around it. It is the opening assignment for Smriti Mandhana as India’s full-time captain in T20 internationals, after Harmanpreet Kaur stepped away from the leadership role earlier this month. It is also Zimbabwe Women’s first bilateral international series against India, and Raipur’s first time hosting a women’s international.
India handed a debut to all-rounder Niki Prasad, adding another new face to a side that still includes experienced names such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma.
Players from both teams wore black armbands and observed a minute’s silence before the start of play to mourn Sarah Dambanevana, the former Zimbabwe cricketer and pioneering umpire who died earlier this week following a brief illness. Dambanevana played for Zimbabwe as a fast bowler before moving into officiating, later becoming the first female umpire from Zimbabwe to join the ICC Development Umpires Panel in 2022 and earning her first ICC appointment at the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in January 2023.
Mandhana’s decision at the toss to bowl first set the tone for India’s approach: back a varied attack, chase under lights, and put immediate pressure on Zimbabwe’s top order. With the score moving quickly through Ndhlovu, India’s bowlers were tasked with changing pace and lengths without offering width.
The early overs offered a glimpse of the balance India are trying to strike in this series. Sharma’s tight spell kept one end quiet, while Gaud’s wicket ensured Zimbabwe did not get away entirely. The use of Verma in the first seven-and-a-half overs also underlined India’s willingness to spread the workload and look for match-ups.
For Zimbabwe, the opening stand after the early wicket was about more than runs. A first tour to India can turn into a long lesson if the top order retreats early; Ndhlovu’s intent, and her ability to find boundaries, gave the visitors a platform and a measure of control.
Match officials for the series opener were listed as Anna Harris, Vrinda Rathi and Narayanan Janani as umpires, with GS Lakshmi as match referee.
The three T20Is are all in Raipur, with the second match slated for Sunday, 18 October, and the third on Tuesday, 20 October, both starting at 7 pm. The tour then shifts format and venue for a three-match ODI series in Vadodara.
The confirmed remaining fixtures on the tour are:
Beyond the women’s tour, Zimbabwe’s next scheduled men’s bilateral visit to India is an ODI series in January 2027, with matches in Kolkata on 3 January, Hyderabad on 6 January and Mumbai on 9 January.
For now, the focus stays on Raipur, where Zimbabwe’s early momentum through Ndhlovu has set up the contest, and India’s new leadership group is being tested immediately on the field before it gets a chance to respond with the bat.
