India posted 351/7 (50 overs) and West Indies were 99/1 in 14.1 overs in reply as the third and final ODI of the series continued on Saturday at the PCA New Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
India came into the day leading the three-match series 2-0, and chose to bat after winning the toss. KL Rahul, keeping wicket, anchored the innings with an unbeaten 129 off 87 balls, striking 10 fours and six sixes, after Rohit Sharma’s 92 set the platform.

Rohit’s knock featured 10 fours and three sixes before he was caught by Jewel Andrew off Keemo Paul. Ruturaj Gaikwad added 57 from 69 balls, including four sixes, and Naman Dhir’s 30 from 21 gave India late momentum.
West Indies’ bowlers had to absorb a heavy scoring rate through the middle and at the death. Jayden Seales finished his 10 overs with 3 for 62, while Paul took 2 for 71 from nine. Gudakesh Motie returned 1 for 67, and Alzarri Joseph went wicketless despite conceding 70 in his 10.
Rahul’s century, Rohit’s base
Rahul’s hundred was his ninth in ODIs, reached at a tempo that kept India above seven an over for much of the innings. He batted through, allowing hitters around him to play freely, and punished anything short or overpitched with clean strikes down the ground and into the leg-side stands.
Rohit, meanwhile, did the hard early work. He mixed orthodox drives with pick-up shots over midwicket, ensuring India did not waste the powerplay. When he fell for 92, the innings was already set up for a final 15 overs of acceleration.
Gaikwad’s 57 offered stability after early movement, and his four sixes helped India keep the boundary count ticking even when West Indies briefly tightened lines. Dhir’s cameo, with three fours and two sixes, pushed the total past 350.
Extras were relatively modest at eight, though seven wides added to the sense that West Indies’ attack struggled to land yorkers consistently at the death.
West Indies start the chase
In the chase, West Indies made a positive start. Captain Shai Hope, also keeping wicket, was 36 not out from 30 balls with six fours at one stage of the innings, while Amir Jangoo moved to 20 not out from 19 deliveries.
The only wicket to fall in the opening phase was John Campbell, bowled by Mohammed Siraj for 10 off seven balls after striking two fours. Siraj’s early spell included figures of 1 for 32 from five overs at one point, as India tried to balance attack with control on a ground where timing has been rewarded.
With the match still in progress, the immediate questions were whether West Indies could sustain their early scoring rate deep into the chase, and how India’s bowlers would respond as the ball softened under lights.
The series context adds weight to the remaining overs. India already hold an unassailable 2-0 lead, but West Indies are playing for a consolation win and momentum, while India will be looking to finish the tour with a clean sweep.
Play was continuing in New Chandigarh at the time of writing, with the result to be decided later on Saturday.
