Producer Dil Raju, through Sri Venkateswara Creations, has bought the theatrical rights of Naga Chaitanya's mythical thriller Vrushakarma in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. The price is undisclosed. Directed by Karthik Dandu, the film is set for release on 4 December.

Producer and distributor Dil Raju has acquired the theatrical distribution rights of Naga Chaitanya's upcoming film Vrushakarma in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. He made the purchase through his company, Sri Venkateswara Creations, and the reports say the price is "fancy" without giving a figure. The film is a mythical thriller and is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 4 December.
Vrushakarma is directed by Karthik Dandu, who also directed the thriller Virupaksha. Naga Chaitanya plays the lead, Meenakshi Chaudhary plays the female lead and Sparsh Shrivastava plays the antagonist. It is described as a mythical thriller that blends ancient mysteries, mythological elements and suspense.
It is produced by BVSN Prasad and Sukumar B under the banners of Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra, known as SVCC, and Sukumar Writings, and is presented by Bapineedu. Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations, the buyer of the rights, is a separate company from the producing banner, although one report treats the two as the same.

The rights bought cover the theatrical distribution in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. In practice, a distributor who buys such rights pays the producer for the exclusive right to show the film in the territories and then collects the box office share from theatres. The deals are normally closed before a film's release, and the amount paid becomes the figure that the film must recover at the box office for the distributor to break even.
The reports do not disclose the price. One site describes it as a record-breaking price for the actor and another calls it his career-biggest pre-release deal, but these descriptions are not backed by a figure. The film is reported to have the biggest budget of Naga Chaitanya's career and to have recorded the highest pre-release business of his career, and both claims are unconfirmed.
Sri Venkateswara Creations is one of the best-known production and distribution houses in Telugu cinema. Over the years, it has distributed many films in the Telugu states, including Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, Murari, Kushi, Aadi, Athadu, Chatrapati and Pokiri. Trend reports on Thursday also suggested that the company is handling the distribution of several other films at the same time, but the sources found for this article do not confirm that.
The film is produced by BVSN Prasad and Sukumar B under the banners of Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra and Sukumar Writings, with Bapineedu as presenter. The technical team includes Ajaneesh B. Loknath as music director, Ragul D. Herian as cinematographer, Sri Nagendra Thangala as production designer and Naveen Nooli as editor. The makers have already released a making video of a cave set, behind-the-scenes videos and posters. An earlier report said that an official announcement of the distribution deal was expected shortly, and the later reports describe the purchase as complete.
In Telugu cinema, distribution is usually sold by territory, with separate buyers for the Nizam region of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh's regions, Karnataka and overseas markets. Buying three territories at once, as Dil Raju has done, gives one distributor control of the release in most of the film's main theatrical market.
The release date of 4 December puts the film in the last month of the year, which is a busy period for theatrical releases in Telugu cinema. Selling the rights in advance gives the makers the money before the film comes out and passes the risk of the box office to the distributor. For the actor, a high price for the rights is also a sign of the market's confidence, although the final test is the response of the audience.
The next developments are likely to be the sale of the rights in other territories and the digital and satellite rights, the release of the film's trailer and songs, and the confirmation of the release date. The reports do not mention any of these. Any report of a figure for the deal should be treated as unconfirmed until the makers or the distributor state it.
