The IPL 2027 mini-auction is set for 16 December in Goa, with teams to submit retained and released players by 15 November, reports say. The BCCI had not formally announced the dates. The purse is reported at Rs 157 crore, up from Rs 151 crore, by lower-tier sources.

The mini-auction for the 2027 Indian Premier League is set for 16 December in Goa, according to reports that appeared on Monday, 26 October, and the ten franchises have been told to submit their lists of retained and released players by 15 November. The reports differ on whether the dates have been formally announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which makes them reports and not yet a confirmed schedule.
The auction is said to be a one-day event, with a briefing for the franchises the day before. Last year's mini-auction was also held on 16 December, in Abu Dhabi, so the league has kept to the same time of year. One report names the ITC Grand Goa as the venue. Another says that the auction will be held on the same day as the second one-day international between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru, which means that the cricket calendar will have two events on 16 December.
The retention deadline of 15 November is the date by which each team must tell the league whom it is keeping and whom it is releasing. Players who are released go into the auction pool, along with those who have registered themselves. Teams can also trade players before the deadline, and the weeks leading up to it are when most of the movement takes place.
The sources are not fully consistent. One report says that the BCCI has not officially announced the dates yet, and the league has not issued a media release on the schedule. Another report says that the date came in a logistics message from the board and that no formal email had been sent. The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, had said earlier that the auction would be held in Goa in December, so the venue has official backing even if the exact day has not been formally released. Other outlets, including ANI and Cricinfo, report 16 December as the date.
The purse is the least certain detail. A lower-tier source gives the salary cap for 2027 as Rs 157 crore, up from Rs 151 crore in 2026, and a second outlet repeats it, but there is no independent confirmation. Franchises usually learn the exact figure from the league, and it can differ from the publicly reported number once retained players are accounted for.
A mini-auction is a smaller event than the mega auction, which is held once every few years and which resets squads. The reports say that this is the last mini-auction of the present cycle, ahead of a mega auction for the 2028 season. Teams will therefore be looking to fix gaps in their squads without breaking up the core, and they will be careful about long-term deals, since the pool will be reshuffled soon.
The leadership of some teams is in the news. Mumbai Indians, in particular, are the subject of speculation about the captaincy and about the future of Hardik Pandya, with the former India spinner R. Ashwin saying that Pandya is almost certain to leave and that the franchise could trade for a bowler from Punjab Kings in return. Such talk is commentary and not an announcement, and the retention deadline will show which of it was right.
For fans, the dates to note are 15 November for the retention lists, and 16 December for the auction. For the players, the next three weeks are the time when agents and franchises talk, and those who expect to be released have to decide whether to put their names in the pool.
There is also an interest outside cricket in the dates. Broadcasters, sponsors and the host city plan around the auction, and the clash with an international match means that the board has to decide who gets the television slot. A mini-auction does not have the long lists of a mega auction, and each team has only a few places to fill, often those of overseas players or of bowlers who have been released. The league's usual process is to publish the list of registered players some weeks before the auction and to shortlist from it. It is then that the headline names, and the bids that have made the auction a spectacle, begin to take shape.
