NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, 85, was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on 2 November after chest pain and a cough. Daughter Supriya Sule said he is undergoing tests and his health parameters are stable. The hospital's chief cardiologist expects the condition to settle; he is under observation.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar, 85, was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on Monday, 2 November, after complaining of chest pain and a cough. His daughter, Baramati MP and party working president Supriya Sule, said on X that he is undergoing medical tests and that all his health parameters are stable.
Dr Purvez Grant, the hospital's chief cardiologist and managing trustee, said the condition is expected to settle down and that Pawar will be kept under observation as a precaution. His official statement described the admission as a general health check-up and medical observation, and said doctors expect a good recovery. The reports describe the pain as pleuritic, meaning chest pain that worsens with breathing or coughing, and some mention a throat infection and a persistent cough. A family member said he had been coughing since Sunday night.
The accounts differ slightly on the reason. Sule attributed the admission to a bout of cough, while the doctor cited chest pain. One report said he was taken to the clinic in the afternoon for a routine check-up, and the doctors then decided to admit him. No discharge date has been given.
On Sunday, 1 November, Pawar toured drought-affected areas of Solapur, Dharashiv and Beed districts and announced Rs 50 lakh for water conservation in Tulshi village in Solapur's Madha taluka. There is no official indication that the tour was linked to his complaint.
This is his third reported admission to Ruby Hall this year. He was admitted from Baramati between 9 and 14 February with a persistent cough, chest congestion and breathing discomfort, and again between 22 and 25 February for mild dehydration, which was treated with supportive care and intravenous fluids. He is a Rajya Sabha member.
Reports carried no statements from other leaders in response to the admission. Further updates from the hospital are awaited.
