A tanker oil spill off Umm Al Quwain, seen by satellite on 21 October and confirmed by the Environment Ministry, has closed beaches in Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah and restricted fishing. The smell is no health risk, the ministry says. The tanker is unidentified; no reopening date.
